Up to £50,000 per year (depending on level of training, experience and qualification)

Thornbury Hospital is part of Circle Health Group, Britain's leading provider of independent healthcare. We are seeking a Lead Theatre Practitioner to join the Theatre department. The successful candidate will have extensive experience scrubbing for major orthopaedic procedures (hip and knee replacement). Preference for experience in other surgical specialties.

This role supports the wider department, coordinates the team, acts as the most senior member on duty, supports off‑duty staff appraisals and covers on‑call duties. The role is full‑time, requiring 37.5 hours a week with a flexible shift pattern.

• Lead the delivery of high‑quality, patient‑centred care across the perioperative pathway, acting as a specialist or functional lead within the team.
• Ensure that all patient safety checks, including WHO surgical safety processes, are carried out in accordance with hospital policy.
• Maintain clinical credibility by demonstrating best practice, supporting others, and taking the lead in complex or high‑risk situations.
• Provide day‑to‑day leadership and supervision for theatre practitioners and support staff, fostering a culture of professionalism, compassion, and accountability.
• Support the development and assessment of competencies within the team, promoting continuous professional development.
• Actively mentor and coach junior staff, including students and newly qualified team members.

• NMC or HCPC registered practitioner with significant experience in a theatre environment (e.g. scrub, recovery, or anaesthetics).
• Demonstrated clinical leadership experience and ability to act as a role model to peers.
• Strong understanding of patient safety protocols, safeguarding, infection control, and clinical governance.
• Scrub Practitioner or Surgical First Assistant qualification (for scrub leads).
• ENB 998 and/or mentorship course.
• Approved / recognised anaesthetic course.
• ILS.
• Excellent communication, organisational and mentoring skills.
