Job overviewAn exciting opportunity has arisen to be part of the administration team in The Wheelchair Service Team. The team is responsible for the assessment and provision of standard wheelchairs and special seating. The service operates from the Mobility and Specialised Rehabilitation Centre (M&SRC) and is part of the Specialised Rehabilitation Services (SRS) directorate.
The Wheelchair Service Officer role involves interacting with patients over the telephone and face to face, understanding patient needs and learning about new equipment being prescribed to patients. It also includes a wide range of administrative duties including recording and maintaining information on the Wheelchair Service database.
Main duties of the jobProvide administrative support to the Wheelchair Services Team. Responsibilities include prescribing standard wheelchairs, personal wheelchair budgets, triaging referrals, arranging the supply, repair, modification and collection of equipment, actioning requests for home visits, checking invoices, liaising with patients and suppliers, and maintaining accurate database records.
Support the provision of the highest standard of care to all patients and contribute to the overall efficiency and development of the service.
Qualifications- Educated to GCSE Grade C/4 English and Maths or above or equivalent qualification/experience
- NVQ3 Administration/Customer Service or equivalent
- ECDL Parts I and II
- Customer Care Training
- IT literate
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Effective interpersonal skills
- Tactful understanding when dealing with a variety of people and situations
- Ability to work under pressure
- Previous NHS experience
- Wheelchair knowledge
- ECDL Training (ongoing or completed)
- Disability Awareness
- Ability to prioritise work
- Ability to work on own initiative
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Methodical working procedures
- Understanding of the need for patient confidentiality
- Ability to empathise when dealing with a variety of people and situations

- Fixed term contract of nine months, subject to review in accordance with the Trust’s legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts and organisational change.
- Existing NHS staff may only be considered on a secondment basis, subject to approval by current line manager.
- Disclosure and Barring Service check will be required in line with the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) and the Order 2020.
