Lecturer in Cyber Security

Grade 7 - £39,906 to £44,746 per annum (depending on experience)

We are seeking an outstanding individual who is passionate about their discipline, to make an academic contribution in the subject area of Cyber Security. Having achieved the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) full certification for excellence in Cyber Security for our MSc Cyber Security, your contribution to the more technical areas of teaching will be highly valued.

The range of courses and subjects taught will enable myriad opportunities to grow and develop your portfolio of knowledge in the discipline. You will contribute to the delivery and development of our innovative undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, helping to equip the next generation of Cyber Security practitioners.

We are very proud of our work environment, undergraduates, postgraduates, and research students work together alongside academic and support staff. The way we teach here is non-traditional, you will not be handed a menu of content to serve up to the students. Instead, we follow an applied, project-based approach to learning.

The Subject Group
- Cyber Security and Computer Networks

The Cyber Security and Computer Networks subject group covers the following courses:

  • BSc (Hons) Cyber Security
  • BSc (Hons) Cyber Security with Forensics
  • MSc Advanced Computer Networks
  • MSc Cyber Security

The UG degrees in the portfolio have a common first year, and specialisms are introduced from the second year onwards. In the Cyber Security degree, strong working knowledge is required in the areas of Ethical Hacking, Network Intrusion Detection systems, and Computer Networks Security. In the final year the specialist modules encompass Advanced Penetration Testing and Information Security Management, Blockchain and IoT, and Virtualisation technology solutions such as Software Defined Networks.

Areas such as Incident Handling and Hacking Techniques, Cyber Threat Intelligence and Digital Forensics, and Information Security Management particularly in relation to the ISO 27001 standard are also valuable to the group.

The School

The School of Computing and Digital Technologies (CDT) is a large and vibrant school engaged in taught programs, research and innovation, and knowledge exchange. All our UG and PG programs are underpinned by project-based learning, which facilitates embedding industry experience across all the programs. CDT is also home to the Centre of Excellence for AI and Robotics (CEAIR), a strategic hub for applied AI, robotics, innovation, and skills development.

The Centre helps organisations prototype, test, and scale human‑centred AI and robotics solutions that improve productivity, support workforce transformation, and deliver measurable social and commercial value. CEAIR combines cutting‑edge research with applied delivery and their focus is not AI for its own sake, but AI that solves operational challenges, improves productivity, enhances services, and creates competitive edge.

CDT is in the top ten biggest computing Departments/Schools in the UK, with more than 2,500 students and nearly 100 staff. We teach a vast array of topics including: computer science, software development, data analytics/science, computer games development, AI, machine learning, cyber security, cyber forensics, advanced computer networking, cloud technologies, information technology management, robotics.

CDT is located right at the heart of Sheffield city centre, putting you right in the middle of this industry. Sheffield is home to a thriving digital and tech industry, employing over 21,000 people and generating billions of pounds in the region. Alongside our many connections with digital and tech businesses, we conduct our own work in industry. Steel Minions is our commercial games development studio, where students create and publish their own games on the Play Station store.

We also work closely with the Advanced Wellbeing Research Centre (AWRC), the Advanced Food Innovation Centre (AFIC), and the Centre of Excellence in Terrorism, Resilience, Intelligence and Organised Crime (CENTRIC).
