Little More About Your Role

The Surveying Advisory team is part of the Investors & Transactions business unit within WSP UK Advisory. With extensive experience advising lenders, investors, and developers on privately financed infrastructure projects, including secondary markets, we offer comprehensive technical advice in the real estate and infrastructure sectors across the PPP/PFI/P3 markets in the UK and Europe. We have been offering these services for over 20 years and are widely recognised as a leading consultant in this field.

An opportunity has arisen for a building surveying technical and business lead to strengthen our team; as a result, we are considering applications for a professional at the technical director/director grade. The role will be based in one of our London, Birmingham, or Manchester offices.

Key Responsibilities Include
  • Lead delivery of complex projects as project director
  • Manage commercial and operational performance to deliver business objectives and analyse and report on performance against budgets
  • Resource Management:
    Ensure accurate resource forecasts; team utilisation is in line with budget, and overhead spend is appropriate
  • People Management:
    Act as People Manager for the senior leadership team / key staff in buildings surveying and MEP Technical Services team
  • Business Development/Work Winning:
    Lead a work‑winning and customer‑centric culture that is client‑focused and links to the pipeline
  • Strategy / Budget – Own and develop the business strategy growth plan in line with the WSP UK 2025‑2027 action plan
What We Will Be Looking For You To Demonstrate
  • Technical knowledge in building surveying of various asset types
  • Technical knowledge of delivery of Centre of Best Practice (CoBP) requirements in healthcare assets
  • Inter‑personal skills with good leadership and management abilities
  • Commercial and strategic capability with a demonstrable track record in identifying and subsequently delivering new business opportunities
  • Expert stakeholder management and related relationship and team management skills
  • Demonstrate ability to improve, motivate, and encourage others within the workplace, lead and implement change programmes, inspire colleagues and drive an innovative and supportive culture. Act as a catalyst for change
  • Forward thinking, capable of visualising and planning for the longer term
  • A broad range of project experience, both within the discipline and multi‑disciplinary
  • Demonstrate an ability to communicate effectively, use own knowledge to support and coach others as required. Actively champion sharing knowledge, ideas and intelligence. Have presentation skills, able to lead and facilitate workshops, training sessions and one‑to‑one learning. Influential and persuasive internally and externally, encourages open dialogue and feedback
  • Able to establish, build, sustain and share professional relationships with relevant groups both inside and outside the organisation. Driven to exceed client expectations
  • Able to reason logically and apply a systematic process to finding solutions, proactive in responding to problems, able to apply sound logic in situations of ambiguity and problem‑solving methodologies across various circumstances
  • Degree‑level qualification in building surveying, mechanical or electrical engineering or an equivalent qualification
  • Chartered status in a relevant profession aligned with the role
  • A broad range of building surveying and/or MEP project experience across various types of real estate assets and/or social infrastructure
