Doncaster Sheffield Airport is in the process of reopening, and we are excited to now be looking for Crew Managers who will play a key part in the airport’s next chapter. As a Crew Manager within the Airport Fire & Rescue Service, you will take on a vital frontline leadership role, providing operational command, supervising crews, and ensuring the highest levels of safety, preparedness, and regulatory compliance.

This is a unique opportunity to be at the heart of a growing operation, leading high-performing teams and helping to shape a safe, resilient, and professional emergency response service from day one.

About the Role

As a Crew Manager within the Airport Fire & Rescue Service at Doncaster Sheffield Airport, you will play a pivotal frontline leadership role in a dynamic and safety‑critical aviation environment. Leading from the front, you will supervise operational crews, ensuring the highest standards of preparedness, professionalism, and performance are consistently achieved in support of safe airport operations.

This role is central to the airport’s emergency response capability, with responsibility for providing effective incident command across a wide range of scenarios, including aircraft incidents, fires, medical emergencies, and other operational events. You will ensure that teams are fully trained, equipped, and ready to respond at all times, maintaining strict compliance with Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) regulations and recognised industry standards.

In addition to operational command, you will take an active role in developing and maintaining a highly skilled and motivated team. This includes overseeing structured training programmes, driving continuous improvement through learning and assurance processes, and promoting a positive safety culture that places wellbeing, discipline, and performance at its core.

You will also contribute to the wider resilience of the airport by working collaboratively with internal departments and external emergency service partners, supporting multi‑agency planning, exercises, and real‑time incident response. As a key member of the leadership team, this is an opportunity to help shape a modern, professional, and high‑performing Airport Fire & Rescue Service at an exciting time of growth and development.

The successful Candidate:

The successful candidate will be an experienced and confident fire and rescue professional with a strong track record of leadership, ideally gained within an aviation or similarly high‑risk environment. You will hold Incident Command Crew Commander (or equivalent) and demonstrate the ability to make clear, timely decisions under pressure, leading teams effectively through a wide range of operational incidents. Strong communication, sound judgement, and a clear understanding of risk management and safe systems of work will be essential to maintaining high operational standards.

You will bring proven experience in leading and developing high‑performing teams, with the ability to motivate others, maintain discipline and wellbeing, and embed a positive safety culture. A commitment to training and continuous improvement is key, ensuring personnel remain competent, compliant, and ready to respond. You will also be expected to meet the physical demands of the role, including successfully achieving the required fitness standards (attaining 42 VO₂ max on a treadmill test).

In addition, you must meet all essential requirements of the role, including holding a full UK driving licence and being able to obtain and maintain an Airside Driving Permit. You will need…
