School Business Manager – Brighton

Full-Time
Salary: £42,000 – £55,000 per annum (dependent on experience)

Engage Education is working with a successful and forward‑thinking school in Brighton to recruit an experienced School Business Manager. This is an excellent opportunity for a highly organised and strategic professional to play a key role in supporting the leadership team and ensuring the effective day‑to‑day operation of the school.

The successful candidate will oversee a range of business and operational functions, helping to ensure resources are managed effectively while supporting the school’s commitment to delivering outstanding educational outcomes.

• Leading the school’s business, operational, and administrative functions
• Managing budgets, financial planning, and resource allocation
• Supporting the Headteacher and senior leadership team with strategic planning
• Overseeing HR administration and recruitment processes
• Managing contracts, procurement, and supplier relationships
• Ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and school policies
• Supporting premises, facilities, health and safety, and site management functions
• Monitoring operational performance and identifying opportunities for improvement
• Preparing reports and presenting information to senior leaders and governors
• Leading and developing support staff teams across the school

• Previous experience in a School Business Manager, Operations Manager, or similar leadership role
• Strong financial management and budget monitoring experience
• Excellent organisational and project management skills
• Experience managing teams and operational functions
• Strong understanding of compliance, health and safety, and school operations
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
• Ability to work strategically while maintaining attention to detail
• Relevant business, finance, or management qualifications are desirable
• School‑based experience is highly desirable
