We are looking for a motivated and experienced Project Manager to join our Transport Development & Capital Delivery team.

This is an exciting opportunity to help deliver projects that form part of South Yorkshire’s ambitious Transport Programme, supporting improvements to the region’s transport network and helping deliver lasting benefits for residents, communities and businesses. You will play a key role in ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to agreed timescales, budgets and quality standards.

About the Role

Reporting to a Principal Project Manager, you will be responsible for managing the delivery of transport projects through all stages of the project lifecycle, from initial development through to completion.

In this role, you will:

  • Manage the delivery of transport projects and support larger or more complex schemes where required
  • Develop and maintain project plans, risk registers, budgets, forecasts and performance reports
  • Monitor project progress and ensure delivery against agreed timescales, costs and objectives
  • Manage project risks, issues, opportunities and change controls throughout the project lifecycle
  • Support the development of business cases and project approvals in line with organisational governance requirements
  • Manage contracts, consultants, suppliers and contractors to ensure effective project delivery
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary project teams and work closely with internal and external stakeholders
  • Lead communication and engagement activities, including working with local authorities, transport operators, funding bodies and communities
  • Ensure statutory approvals and compliance requirements are identified and secured
  • Capture lessons learned and contribute to continuous improvement across project delivery activities

This role offers the opportunity to work on a diverse range of transport projects that support economic growth, connectivity and sustainable travel across South Yorkshire.

About you

You will be an organised and proactive project professional with experience delivering projects in a complex environment.

You will bring:

  • Experience managing projects through key stages of delivery, from planning through to implementation
  • Strong project management skills, including programme management, budgeting, risk management and reporting
  • The ability to coordinate multiple activities and manage competing priorities effectively
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Experience working collaboratively with partners, consultants, contractors and project teams
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills, with the ability to make informed decisions and recommendations
  • Commercial awareness and an understanding of procurement and contract management principles
  • The ability to produce clear, accurate and professional reports, presentations and project documentation
  • A proactive and solutions-focused approach, with the confidence to work independently and take ownership of outcomes
