Registered Manager – Children’s Residential Home

Sheffield

Up to £5,000 annual performance bonus

Full-time | Permanent

Build the kind of home you would be proud to lead.

Alderwing Care is recruiting an experienced, capable and child-focused Registered Manager to lead the development of a children’s residential home in Sheffield.

This is an opportunity to join at the pre-registration stage and influence decisions that managers are often asked to inherit: the service model, team, culture, policies, systems and standards of the home.

The manager will have professional authority to lead the service, supported by direct access to the provider, appropriate Responsible Individual oversight and practical support throughout registration, mobilisation and ongoing operation.

The Role

You will lead the development and day-to-day management of the home, including:

  • shaping and implementing the Statement of Purpose, policies and operational systems
  • recruiting, developing and retaining a stable, values-led staff team
  • leading safeguarding practice and promoting a culture of professional curiosity
  • ensuring the home meets the Children’s Homes Regulations, Quality Standards and relevant Ofsted requirements
  • preparing for registration and future inspection
  • overseeing care planning, risk management and placement-matching decisions
  • establishing effective quality-assurance and continuous-improvement systems
  • building credible relationships with children, families, social workers, commissioners and other professionals
  • creating a culture in which children feel safe, listened to, valued and supported to make progress
About You

We are looking for someone who can demonstrate:

  • substantial experience in children’s residential care
  • leadership or management experience within a children’s residential setting
  • sound safeguarding judgement and the confidence to challenge poor or unsafe practice
  • a strong understanding of the Children’s Homes Regulations, Quality Standards and Ofsted expectations
  • the ability to recruit, supervise and develop staff
  • clear communication, resilience and accountable decision-making
  • the ability to translate policies and plans into consistent day-to-day practice

In line with the regulatory fitness requirements for children’s home managers, candidates must be able to evidence:

  • at least two years’ work, within the last five years, in a position relevant to the residential care of children
  • at least one year in a role involving the supervision and management of staff working in a care role
  • the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare, an equivalent qualification, or the ability to complete the required qualification within the regulatory timescale
  • a full UK driving licence

Previous experience as an Ofsted Registered Manager is highly desirable, but it is not essential. We will consider exceptional Deputy Managers and other experienced children’s residential leaders who can demonstrate the suitability, experience and leadership ability required to progress through registration.

What Alderwing Offers
  • £47,000–£55,000 salary depending on verified experience and capability
  • up to £5,000 annual bonus linked to transparent, quality-led objectives
  • birthday off
  • workplace pension
  • funded enhanced DBS
  • funded training and continuing professional development
  • genuine influence over recruitment, culture, practice and systems
  • direct access to the provider and timely decision-making
  • support throughout registration and mobilisation
  • appropriate Responsible Individual oversight, support and professional challenge
  • longer-term development opportunities as Alderwing grows

The Registered Manager will not be expected to establish the organisation unsupported. The provider will lead on funding, property, governance and the wider development of the service, while respecting the manager’s professional authority over the safe day-to-day operation of the home.

Alderwing Care is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. Appointment will be subject to robust safer-recruitment checks, including an enhanced DBS check, satisfactory references, verification of qualifications, a full employment-history review and all other checks required for the role.

Alderwing Care is an equal opportunities employer.
