Heat Treatment Operative​/Chargehand

Position: Heat Treatment Operative / Chargehand
Adept Resourcing is recruiting for a premier manufacturing business in Sheffield, a leader in delivering precision metal treatment for industries like aerospace, automotive, and energy.

As a Chargehand, you will supervise a team of operatives, ensuring efficient, high-quality heat treatment processes while maintaining safety standards. Experienced Heat Treatment Operatives with strong skills and leadership potential are also encouraged to apply, as this role offers a step-up opportunity.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead a team of 4-10 operatives, assigning tasks and monitoring performance to meet production targets

Oversee furnace operations, including loading/unloading materials using forklifts and overhead cranes

Program furnace controllers to meet precise customer specifications (e.g., hardening, tempering, annealing)

Ensure accurate identification and marking of materials pre and post treatment; oversee packing of processed goods

Troubleshoot production issues and coordinate with supervisors to maintain workflow

Maintain detailed production logs and ensure equipment upkeep

Enforce strict health and safety protocols in a high-temperature industrial environment

Candidate Requirements:

3+ year's experience in heat treatment or steel manufacturing; experienced operatives with leadership potential also considered

Current or lapsed forklift truck (FLT) and/or overhead crane licenses preferred; training/refresher courses available

Comfortable with rotating shifts (mornings/afternoons or days/nights) and overtime availability

Proven leadership skills, with ability to motivate teams and ensure quality output

Strong technical aptitude, attention to detail, and commitment to safety

Physical fitness for manual tasks in a demanding shop floor setting

Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
