  • Hours: 22.2 hours
  • Contract: Fixed Term - Part Time (24 months)
  • Salary: Grade 11 £ 51,357 - £54,495 (per annum, pro-rata for Part Time)
  • Location: Sheffield (This is a hybrid role with a minimum of 1.5 days per week in the office)

SYMCA is committed to improving outcomes for the Armed Forces community across South Yorkshire. We are looking for a proactive and collaborative Veterans Strategic Co‑ordinator to lead regional engagement, support delivery of the VALOUR pilot, and help shape policy and practice that strengthens support for veterans and their families. This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact, working with local authorities, the MOD, charities, and wider public services to build integrated, high-quality support across the region.

About the role

You will coordinate SYMCA’s Veterans Programme and support development of our Armed Forces Covenant commitments. Working with partners across local authorities, the MOD, charities and public services, you will strengthen service models, improve outcomes, and represent SYMCA in regional and national forums to enhance support for the Armed Forces community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead engagement and partnership working across local authorities, MOD, charities and public-sector organisations.
  • Coordinate regional delivery of the VALOUR programme and ensure alignment with local and national priorities.
  • Support the development and implementation of SYMCA’s Armed Forces Covenant.
  • Promote integrated service models through data, insight and best practice.
  • Facilitate regional forums, workshops and partnership events.
  • Provide strategic briefings and updates for leaders and Covenant Boards.
  • Represent SYMCA in regional and national forums to influence veterans policy.
  • Analyse data to support performance monitoring and continuous improvement.
  • Support funding opportunities and partnership development.
  • Strengthen coherence across SYMCA’s veterans work.
About you

You will bring experience of supporting veterans or working within coordinated public‑service environments, along with strong skills in partnership‑building and programme delivery. You’re confident analysing data, influencing stakeholders, and communicating effectively at all levels. Comfortable working independently, you can balance multiple priorities while aligning local and national objectives. You’ll also have an understanding of local government or combined authority structures and be confident using IT and MS Office tools.

Ideally, you will also bring:

  • Awareness of MOD structures and the wider veterans policy landscape
  • Experience with funding models or partnership development
  • Familiarity with digital tools and systems used in programme delivery.
