This opportunity invites an independent and motivated researcher to contribute to cutting-edge bioscience at the University of Sheffield, working on a project supported by the UK Research and Innovation’s Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC). The post advances scientific understanding at the interface of stem cell biology and disease modelling, with a research focus that encompasses human pluripotent stem cell (hPSC)-based systems and their use to investigate fundamental mechanisms relevant to health and disease.
The role is embedded within a collaborative research environment that values multidisciplinary approaches and academic rigour, offering a stimulating context for impactful laboratory research and scholarly engagement.
Candidates should hold a doctoral degree (PhD) in stem cell biology, developmental biology, molecular biology or a closely related discipline. Successful applicants will demonstrate a strong academic foundation with evidence of research capability at postdoctoral level or equivalent professional experience. Eligibility includes readiness to undertake independent research and contribute to project goals within a research team.
The role requires hands-on expertise in stem cell culture and experimental techniques central to modern cell biology research, including human pluripotent stem cell maintenance and differentiation protocols, immunocytochemistry/imaging, flow cytometry, quantitative PCR and associated analytical methods. Effective scientific communication, collaborative teamwork, and a commitment to rigorous experimental design and data interpretation are essential attributes for success.
Remuneration for this position typically aligns with UK academic research associate pay scales, with indicative salary ranges observed for similar roles reflecting competitive compensation for postdoctoral researchers.
Final date to receive applications – Friday, 13 March 2026 (as indicated on the University of Sheffield’s jobs portal).
