Job Description & How to Apply Below

Overview

Make a real-world impact on oral and systemic health through cutting‑edge in vivo stem cell biology research aimed at improving understanding and treatment of periodontal disease.

Join the Neves Lab within the School of Clinical Dentistry at the University of Sheffield. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on a BBSRC-funded research programme investigating how stem and vascular cell populations behave in vivo during tissue homeostasis and chronic infectious‑inflammatory disease. Using periodontal disease as a clinically relevant biological model, the project integrates stem cell biology, vascular biology, inflammation, and regenerative mechanisms to generate insights with clear translational potential.

You will be part of a dynamic, supportive, and forward‑thinking research environment committed to understanding fundamental biology to enhance the delivery of biologically driven solutions to chronic disease and advancing personalised approaches to oral healthcare.

Responsibilities

Your role will be to undertake laboratory‑based research to deliver the objectives of the project. You will design, perform, and analyse in vivo experiments using genetically modified rodent models, maintain and work with animal colonies, and apply a range of cellular, molecular, imaging, and sequencing techniques to investigate tissue behaviour in health and disease. You will contribute to data analysis, manuscript preparation, and dissemination of findings, working both independently and as part of a collaborative research team.

Qualifications

We are looking for a motivated postdoctoral biologist with experience or strong interest in in vivo research, stem cell or vascular biology, inflammation, or regenerative biology. You will join an inclusive and collaborative environment where your scientific contributions will shape a growing translational research programme.

Benefits

At the University of Sheffield, you will be part of a community that values excellence, innovation, diversity, and wellbeing. We offer an excellent benefits package, including generous annual leave, flexible working arrangements, a leading pension scheme, and a wide range of professional development and wellbeing support.

Diversity

We build teams of people from different backgrounds, cultures, and experiences, whose talent and contributions complement each other to the greatest effect. We believe diversity in all its forms delivers greater impact through research, teaching, and innovation.
