Research Associate in Oral Stem Cell Biology

University of Sheffield
Sheffield, United Kingdom

An exciting opportunity has opened at the University of Sheffield for a Research Associate in Oral Stem Cell Biology within the School of Clinical Dentistry, Faculty of Health. This fixed-term, full-time role is part of a BBSRC-funded research programme focused on understanding stem and vascular cell behaviour in vivo and how these processes contribute to tissue homeostasis and chronic infectious-inflammatory diseases such as periodontal disease.

Based in a dynamic and collaborative research environment, the successful candidate will join a team dedicated to advancing fundamental biology with strong translational potential in regenerative and precision-medicine approaches.

You will lead laboratory-based experiments using genetically modified rodent models, including lineage tracing and gain- and loss-of-function approaches compliant with relevant regulations. The role involves maintaining and working with animal colonies, applying a range of techniques such as histology, immunofluorescence, confocal microscopy, micro-CT, and multi-omics assays (including transcriptomic and epigenomic analyses) to explore tissue behaviour in health and disease. Contribution to data analysis, manuscript preparation, presentations, and collaborative project planning are integral components of the role.

You will be part of an inclusive, supportive research team with access to state-of-the-art facilities and a strong emphasis on professional development, interdisciplinary collaboration, and high-impact science. The environment fosters opportunities for intellectual growth, experimental skill advancement, and research dissemination.

Eligibility Criteria

  • PhD (or equivalent experience) in stem cell biology, molecular biology, developmental biology, biomedical sciences, or a related discipline.
  • Experience in in vivo research with animal models, particularly genetically modified rodents, is essential.
  • Strong foundational knowledge of cellular and tissue biology and relevant laboratory techniques.

Required Expertise & Skills

  • Proficiency in histology, immunofluorescence, and confocal microscopy.
  • Familiarity with molecular assays and multi-omics approaches.
  • Ability to analyse complex biological data and maintain detailed research records.
  • Excellent communication and team collaboration skills.

Salary Details £38,784 – £41,064 per annum (Grade
