Role Overview

Research Associate position in the investigation of safety and toxicity of advanced therapies (iSTAT) programme aiming to develop 3D organoid‑based tumourigenicity assays for human pluripotent stem cells.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct high-level personal research in the remit of cell therapy safety.
  • Identify and design novel research objectives and implement experimental programmes.
  • Publish findings in high‑quality journals and present at conferences.
  • Manage time, materials, finance and equipment efficiently.
  • Support PI with research proposals and funding applications.
  • Supervise undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD students and oversee their work.
  • Participate in consortium meetings and collaborate with Roche’s Institute of Human Biology.
  • Implement enrolled ethical decisions and integrate sustainability strategies.
  • Carry out other duties as required for the grade.
Person Specification
  • PhD (or almost complete) in stem cell biology, developmental biology, bioengineering or related field.
  • Expertise in culture and differentiation of human pluripotent stem cells or 3D/organoid models.
  • Proficiency in qPCR and immunostaining/imaging techniques.
  • Experience in flow cytometry.
  • Desirable: multi‑omics approaches such as single‑cell RNA‑seq, ATAC‑seq or metabolomics.
  • Excellent communication, report writing and presentation skills.
  • Strong record‑keeping, data management and IT competence.
  • Problem‑solving skills and ability to analyse long‑term implications.
  • Capacity to organise resources and plan work activities, keeping up‑to‑date with current projects.
  • Flexibility to adapt to experimental demands and equipment availability.
