Employment Specialist

We are seeking motivated and passionate Employment Specialists who are looking for a career in the health and work sector to be part of our brilliant teams here at South Yorkshire Housing Association (SYHA). We are currently recruiting for roles across South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw.

Location and Salary

South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw areas

£26,176 per annum (pro rata)

Working Hours

37 hours per week, including some weekend and evening work.

As an Employment Specialist you will play a vital role in working alongside people with mental health conditions and disabilities to achieve sustainable paid work. You’ll receive all the training and support you need and have access to a wide range of opportunities to develop your skills at SYHA.

Responsibilities
  • Use a strengths‑based coaching style to encourage sustainable outcomes for individuals in your caseload.
  • Build relationships with employers to understand their recruitment needs and source individualized employment opportunities based on preferences.
  • Work with employers to support employees who are struggling due to health issues, helping them thrive in the workplace.
  • Motivate people to ensure frequent engagement and focus on developing skills and confidence for meaningful employment.
  • Collaborate with health partners to provide an integrated, well‑rounded employment service.
  • Advocate for your caseload by educating and engaging with employers about the employment service.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Commitment, drive, and integrity to challenge inequality and break down barriers, with a strong belief in a strength‑based approach and tailored goals.
  • Ability to build relationships and communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders via in‑person or email.
  • Excellent organisational and diary‑management skills, able to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Excellent IT skills; confidence in learning new CRMs and MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Confidence to work out in the community, meeting new employers and advocating for people who want to work.
  • Strong record‑keeping skills; accurate and timely information capture.
  • Valid driving licence and ability to travel within South Yorkshire; access to a vehicle for work essential.
  • Experience in persuasive communication, motivational interviewing, or promotion of services to diverse audiences (coaching, recruitment, sales, education, training/mentoring).
