The Role

You will provide high-quality, strengths-based housing advice and casework, supporting residents who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

Your focus will be on preventing homelessness wherever possible—offering early advice, identifying risks, and coordinating support before situations escalates into crisis. Where prevention is not possible, you will work with customers to secure sustainable housing solutions, reducing the need for temporary or emergency accommodation.

Depending on the team, you will carry out some or all of the below:
  • Work with customers with a wide range of housing needs, from one-off advice to managing a caseload
  • Carry out homelessness assessments and make decisions in line with legislation
  • Provide practical advice and tailored housing solutions
  • Identify barriers early, including affordability, tenancy history, and support needs
  • Support access to suitable accommodation and wider support services
  • Work proactively to prevent crisis and promote long-term housing stability
  • Engage with people experiencing long-term or more complex patterns of rough sleeping, using a trauma-informed and strengths-based approach
  • Work with landlords to increase private rented housing options and match customers to suitable properties, ensuring a smooth move into settled accommodation
  • Maintain accurate records and meet statutory timescales
Our Approach

We are building a service that is:

  • Prevention-led
  • Focused on avoiding crisis and reducing emergency and temporary accommodation
  • Strengths-based
  • Collaborative and partnership-driven
What We’re Looking For

You will bring:

  • The ability to manage a caseload and make sound decisions

  • Confidence working at pace and managing competing demands

You will also:

  • Be confident supporting people in crisis while maintaining a calm, empathetic approach
  • Be committed to strengths-based practice, helping people take positive steps forward
  • Work effectively with colleagues and partners to achieve the best outcomes

We recognise that there is no single “ideal” background for this role. What matters is your ability to work with people, build trust and deliver positive outcomes.

We’re committed to building a team that reflects the diversity of Sheffield, and we welcome applications from people with a wide range of backgrounds, experiences and perspectives.
