Neighbourhood Officer

Role

• Manage a caseload of properties and temporary households, assisting them to source permanent housing whilst managing their temporary home.
• Provide support primarily through home visits, spending much of the time in your neighbourhood "patch".
• Refer to specialist services where needed and collaborate with council teams and external partners; support with sensitive issues such as safeguarding, substance misuse and mental health.
• Investigate anti‑social behaviour and harassment concerns, ensure access for repairs and maintenance, and address rent arrears.
• Support tenants with utility bills, Housing Benefit claims and other tenancy responsibilities.
• Communicate complex information to customers using fluent English verbal and written skills.
• Use computer database and web‑based systems to record and report.

The Temporary Accommodation team is a fast‑paced service, and you will need to be able to manage your time well and stay calm in a challenging environment.

Provide timely, empathic and efficient responses about a range of enquiries, to meet the best outcomes for Sheffield residents.

You will be part of a rota which staffs several customer‑facing offices.

The current opening hours are 7.45am to 5.15pm, so some flexibility around working hours is required.

Full‑time employees work 37 hours for 52 weeks of the year and we offer a generous holiday entitlement. We are open to discussions about a wide range of flexible working opportunities which benefit you and the Council, including reduced‑hour contracts, working part time or as a job share.

If you are appointed to this role, your starting salary will be at the bottom of the grade. If you provide payslip evidence that your basic pay is greater than the bottom of the grade, we will consider starting you at the point of minimum advantage within the grade.
