Kubernetes Platform Tech Lead

Sheffield, Leeds or Birmingham (Hybrid – 3 days in office)

We are seeking a Kubernetes Platform Tech Lead to join our engineering team, working across our cloud-native platform where approximately 80% of the codebase is written in Go Lang .

This is a hands-on technical leadership role for someone who combines deep engineering expertise with strong architectural judgment and operational awareness. You will play a key role in shaping how our platform evolves, ensuring we build reliable, scalable, and maintainable Kubernetes-based systems.

You will act as a technical authority within the team, supporting engineers across design, implementation, and delivery of platform capabilities. A major part of your role will involve code review, technical guidance, and architectural decision‑making
, particularly across GoLang services and Kubernetes infrastructure.

This is not purely a coding role — it requires someone who can step back and think strategically about system design, operational resilience, and long‑term platform health.

• Provide technical leadership across a Kubernetes‑based platform built primarily in Go Lang
• Review and guide engineering work through pull requests, design discussions, and architecture reviews
• Influence and support technical decision‑making across the team and wider platform engineering group
• Ensure best practices for Kubernetes architecture, scalability, reliability, and performance
• Collaborate closely with engineers to improve code quality, system design, and operational maturity
• Help define and evolve platform standards, patterns, and engineering practices
• Support incident resolution and contribute to improving platform reliability and observability
• Work across teams to ensure consistent implementation of Kubernetes and cloud‑native patterns

• Strong commercial experience with GoLang (Golang) in production environments
• Deep understanding of the Kubernetes ecosystem (clusters, operators, controllers, deployments, networking, etc.)
• Experience working in platform engineering, SRE, or cloud‑native backend teams
• Strong capability in technical leadership, code review, and architectural decision‑making
• Understanding of production operations, including observability, reliability, and incident response
• Ability to balance hands‑on engineering with strategic platform thinking
• Strong communication skills with the ability to influence technical direction

This role sits at the heart of our platform engineering function. You will help shape how our Kubernetes and GoLang ecosystem evolves, ensuring we build systems that are not only technically strong today, but scalable and resilient for the future.
