Work Set Up: Hybrid (3 days per week in office)
Our client in the Information Technology and Services industry is looking for a Lead (Kotlin/Java) to provide technical leadership for an agile engineering team delivering scalable, high‑quality software solutions. This role will lead technical planning, guide solution design, and drive the development of modern microservices and APIs while collaborating closely with engineering, testing, and product teams. The successful candidate will contribute hands‑on to software development, mentor team members, and ensure engineering best practices are consistently applied throughout the software delivery lifecycle.
What you will do:
- Lead day‑to‑day technical activities for an agile engineering team, supporting the overall Technical Lead in delivering high‑quality software solutions.
- Refine technical backlogs by decomposing epics and features into well‑defined user stories, clarifying acceptance criteria, identifying dependencies, and ensuring delivery readiness.
- Support sprint planning by defining technical approaches, identifying implementation spikes, estimating work, and prioritizing deliverables.
- Design, develop, and implement primarily back‑end services and APIs using Kotlin and Java, while contributing to front‑end development when required.
- Build, enhance, and maintain microservices and REST APIs using secure, resilient, and scalable engineering practices.
- Apply consistent engineering patterns including logging, error handling, resilience, and security‑by‑design principles.
- Contribute to architectural decisions alongside technical leadership, documenting design decisions and technical trade‑offs.
- Design, build, test, deploy, and support end‑to‑end software solutions from initial requirements through production support.
- Coach development teams on clean code principles, test‑driven development, secure coding practices, and maintainable software design.
- Drive peer code reviews, enforce engineering standards, and promote high levels of code quality and readability.
- Work within Agile CI/CD environments to deliver rapid, automated, and high‑quality software releases.
- Collaborate with developers, testers, product teams, and stakeholders to continuously improve products and engineering processes.
- Engage proactively with users and customers to resolve production issues, respond to feature requests, and reduce recurring operational challenges.
- Identify, manage, and remove technical blockers while supporting work prioritization and delivery execution.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Strong experience developing applications using Kotlin or significant Java experience with the willingness to learn Kotlin.
- Proven experience providing technical leadership within Agile software delivery teams.
- Strong experience designing and developing microservices, REST APIs, and distributed systems.
- Experience working with asynchronous messaging and event‑driven architectures using Kafka or similar technologies.
- Experience working with developer collaboration tools such as Git Hub, Bitbucket, Jira, and Confluence.
- Strong understanding of Agile methodologies, CI/CD pipelines, and modern software engineering best practices.
- Demonstrated ability to decompose complex work, manage dependencies, and resolve technical challenges.
- Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and production support skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate technical concepts clearly.
- Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across engineering, testing, product, and business teams.
