Doncaster Sheffield Airport is in the process of reopening, marking an exciting new chapter, and we are now looking for Firefighters to be part of this journey. This is a unique opportunity to join the Airport Fire & Rescue Service at a pivotal time, helping to build a modern, professional, and highly capable emergency response team that will underpin the safe and resilient operation of the airport from day one.
As a Firefighter, you will play a critical role in protecting passengers, staff, aircraft, and infrastructure, responding to a wide range of incidents while operating in a fast-paced, safety‑critical aviation environment.
We are seeking applications from both qualified Aviation Firefighters and competent Local Authority Firefighters looking to transition into the aviation sector. You will either hold recognised aviation firefighting competence in line with CAA requirements or bring the experience and capability to adapt your skills to this specialist environment. This is an excellent opportunity to broaden your experience, working as part of a highly trained team while developing the knowledge, skills, and behaviours required to operate effectively within a regulated aerodrome setting.
Aboutthe Role
As a Firefighter at Doncaster Sheffield Airport, you will provide a critical emergency response service, helping to protect passengers, staff, aircraft, and airport infrastructure in a fast-paced and safety‑critical aviation environment. Responding to a wide range of incidents—including aircraft emergencies, fires, rescues, medical incidents, and hazardous materials—you will play an essential role in maintaining the safety and resilience of the airport community.
This role requires the highest levels of professionalism, operational discipline, and teamwork. You will operate specialist fire appliances and equipment, support routine inspections and maintenance to ensure operational readiness, and carry out duties in line with Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) regulations, procedures, and industry standards. You will also contribute to wider airport resilience, including supporting operations during adverse weather and participating in multi‑agency responses.
A strong commitment to training, safety, and continuous improvement is essential. You will undertake ongoing development to maintain competence, demonstrate personal resilience, and perform effectively under pressure in dynamic situations. Maintaining high levels of physical fitness and situational awareness will be key to ensuring you are always ready to respond safely and effectively when it matters most.
The Successful CandidateThe successful candidate will be a committed and professional firefighter with proven experience of operating in a structured and disciplined emergency response environment. You will be confident working under pressure, demonstrating strong situational awareness and the ability to make effective decisions in dynamic, time‑critical situations. A team‑focused approach is essential, with the ability to communicate clearly and work cohesively within an established command structure while maintaining the highest standards of safety and operational performance.
