Manufacturing Engineer Intern
, you will gain hands‑on experience supporting aerospace production and working alongside experienced Manufacturing Engineers. You will contribute to optimizing plant layouts, developing custom tooling, and implementing Lean manufacturing principles to improve production efficiency and product flow. This role provides significant exposure to the shop floor, where you will observe manufacturing processes, identify bottlenecks and opportunities for improvement, and support operator training on the systems and processes you help develop.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Documentation & Work Instructions: Support the creation and maintenance of highly detailed process documentation and visual work instructions. You will help ensure that internal process specifications are up‑to‑date and easily understood by operators.
  • Tooling & Fixture Design: Assist in the design and development of specialized manufacturing tooling and jigs using CAD software. You will also research and implement improved methods for tooling storage and inventory control.
  • Process Improvement Implementation: Aid in the identification and implementation of process and assembly improvements. You will research the feasibility and performance of new equipment or components to determine their impact on production efficiency.
  • Equipment Installation & Support: Support the installation, operation, and maintenance of machinery to ensure equipment is functioning according to strict aerospace specifications.
  • Operator Training: Assist in the training of shop floor operators on key processes and new equipment, ensuring safety and quality standards are maintained across the facility.
  • Support Manufacturing: Be involved with engineering activities for special processes, including heat treatment and brazing, while applying SMED (Single‑Minute Exchange of Die) principles to machining operations to reduce setup times, improve process efficiency, and increase production capacity.
Requirements
  • Legal: Must be able to pass a comprehensive criminal background check and drug screening.
  • ITAR: Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum (due to ITAR requirements).
  • Education: Currently pursuing a BS degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Technology, or a related engineering discipline.

    Skills:

    Proficiency in CAD software (Solid Works preferred) and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook). Must have a basic understanding of manufacturing processes like machining and assembly.
  • Soft Skills: Ability to communicate effectively and work well with others. You must be comfortable interacting with both senior engineers and shop floor operators.
  • Physical Demands: Must be able to sit and stand constantly, frequently transitioning between an office environment and the active manufacturing floor. Must be able to lift up to 20 lbs occasionally.
