Role Type:
Hands-on manufacturing quality leadership

Role Summary

We are seeking a hands-on Quality Manager to join our team and help guide the next phase of our growth in a tight-tolerance, precision machining environment. This role is floor-based and works directly within production alongside the people doing the work every day.

The Quality Manager plays a critical role in helping our teams succeed by providing structure, clarity, and support around how quality is built into our processes. This position partners closely with machinists, inspectors, engineers, R&D, and operations leadership to understand where things go wrong, why they go wrong, and how we can improve together.

Core Responsibilities Failure Modes, Rework & Scrap Reduction
  • Drive results in First Pass Yield throughout the business.
  • Work with teams to identify where failures occur across machining, finishing, assembly, and downstream processes.
  • Help quantify rework and scrap using data and direct observation.
  • Facilitate root cause analysis and corrective actions in a collaborative, learning-focused way.
Manufacturing Quality Support (Floor-Based)
  • Spend the majority of time on the production floor working directly with machinists, inspectors, and engineers.
  • Support teams in the correct use of inspection tools, gages, fixtures, and calibration equipment.
  • Actively verify and validate measurement methods to ensure confidence in results.
  • Identify opportunities to improve measurement accuracy, repeatability, and overall yield, and work collaboratively to address them.
Measurement, Calibration & Accuracy
  • Help ensure measurement systems across the facility are reliable and well understood.
  • Maintain and support calibration practices, schedules, and records.
  • Research and recommend improvements to inspection methods and equipment to better support our teams and products.
  • Leverage CMM capability and data to better understand variation and process performance.
Quality Management System (QMS) Development
  • Help build and mature a practical Quality Management System that reflects how the business actually operates.
  • Create and maintain quality documentation that is useful, accessible, and supports daily work.
  • Support internal audits, corrective actions, and continuous improvement efforts as part of normal operations.

Experience with ISO 9001 and AS9100 principles is important, but the focus is on building a system that helps people succeed.

Data-Driven Quality Leadership
  • Use quality data to help inform operational and business decisions.
  • Develop and maintain meaningful quality metrics tied to yield, rework, scrap, and process stability.
  • Partner with the Operations to connect quality outcomes to process, labor, and planning decisions.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Work closely with Operations to support stable, repeatable processes.
  • Partner with Engineering and R&D to ensure new designs and changes are manufacturable, measurable, and well understood before release.
  • Support supplier quality efforts in coordination with Supply Chain leadership.
What This Role Is Not:
  • Not an office-based quality role
  • Not an inspection-only function
  • Not a compliance-for-compliance-sake position

This role exists to help teams do great work consistently.

Desired Skills & Experience
  • Experience in tight-tolerance machining or precision manufacturing environments.
  • Strong understanding of:
  • GD&T and precision measurement
  • CMM operation and data interpretation
  • Measurement system accuracy and repeatability
  • Process capability and variation
  • Hands-on experience with calibration equipment, gages, and inspection tools.
  • A track record of improving yield and reducing rework through process improvement and collaboration.
  • Experience working within ISO 9001 and or AS9100-based quality systems.
  • Comfortable working directly with operators and engineers to understand challenges and improve outcomes.
  • Strong attention to detail paired with a supportive, problem-solving mindset.
  • Solid knowledge of the 1911 platform.
Qualifications
  • Manufacturing background with hands-on quality leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated success improving quality outcomes in machining or precision manufacturing environments.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, respectfully, and effectively across teams.
