The Manufacturing Engineer will support Business Unit team members in the areas of problem solving, Lean and Continuous Improvement activities, and process development. The candidate will focus on improving product quality, production efficiency and reducing waste in our extrusion process.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Shall adhere to all safety, health and environmental procedures, policies and practices such as utilizing personal protective equipment and proper attire in keeping with safety standards.
- Comply with all QMS/EMS/ISO procedures and work instructions as it pertains to the position description.
- Optimize current process and develop new extrusion processes.
- Ensure all Manufacturing Engineering (ME) related activities in the office and on the production floor are carried out in a safe manner and address any unsafe practices witnessed on the shop floor or in the office.
- Effectively support and understand the JAC Products Development System (JPDS) and complete all deliverables on time, including Process Flow Diagram, PFMEA, Capital Asset Request (CAR) Approval, Equipment Plan, Installation, Equipment Qualification, Tooling and Equipment Tryout, Run at Rate, Operator Work Instructions, and Facilities and Equipment Plans.
- Verify BOMs for parts manufactured on assigned cells are accurate and contain proper quantities and weights for each part.
- Support packaging development and ensure BOMs & packaging instructions are accurate and correct.
- Prepare project cost estimates, budgets, Returns on Investments (ROIs), and CARs as required.
- Work with Launch Managers, Facility Tooling, and Equipment Suppliers to develop and build assembly fixtures, assembly aids, or other equipment needed in developing manufacturing cells.
- Ensure work cells are set‑up properly and contain the required equipment and information that enables the proper number of operators to produce products at the assigned run‑rate and to the required specifications.
- Lead the creation and maintenance of specific process Work Instructions, partnering with the appropriate Business Unit counterpart(s) to ensure accuracy.
- Participate in quality stand‑downs for customer concerns, using problem‑solving tools such as the JAC corrective action process, 8‑D, 5‑Why, Fishbone Diagrams, Design of Experiment (DOE), etc. to help identify root cause and support the team in implementing permanent corrective actions.
- Maintain information boards and track daily and monthly metrics on each cell, including Scrap, Downtime, Change‑over, Repair/FTY, and Labor Efficiency.
- Create and update Job Books for each part number on assigned cells.
- Lead and support productivity‑enhancing and cost‑reducing activities in reducing scrap, downtime, change‑over, efficiency improvements, and first‑time yield (FTY).
- Drive improvements through the JAC Products Performance System (JPPS), implementing lean manufacturing concepts on assigned cells and involving operators, maintenance, and tooling personnel in cell improvements.
- Implement Engineering Changes for assigned manufacturing cells, ensuring all BOMs and routers are aligned to the change, verifying material quantity and weights, updating all work cell information, and preparing ME responsible documents for PPAP and submission to QE for customer presentation.
- Assist in audits of the Quality Management System of assigned cells, including compliance to existing work instructions, processes, and forms, covering internal and customer‑driven audits.
- Train Business Unit team members and operators on safety devices, manufacturing build process, standard work, process flow diagrams (PFD), PFMEA, work instructions, problem‑solving techniques, cell layout, information board, and charting cell metrics.
- Interface with suppliers as needed on processes, productivity, and product improvements.
- Perform all other functions as required, including any work assignments related to the efficient flow of work within JAC Products.
