Overview

Responsibilities
  • Evaluate, plan, direct, and administer programs of Speech Language Pathology upon referral by a physician.
  • Plan and conduct SLP to restore function, prevent disability, and help patients reach their maximum level of independence.
Essential Functions
  • Direct and supervise activities of rehab technicians, speech-language pathology students and volunteers involved in administering care to patients and assist with orienting new and rotating staff.
  • Evaluate patients and establish appropriate care plans including modalities, procedures, exercise programs, and patient education.
  • Gather and interpret data from medical records, physician reports, patients, and families, document findings, and identify and utilize appropriate assistive devices.
  • Document evaluations, tests, progress notes, daily treatment notes, attendance records, patient/family education, outcomes, discharge notes, and charges.
  • Reevaluate patients as needed, modifying goals and treatment as status changes.
  • Communicate patient evaluation and progress to physicians, referral sources, and other clinical staff; coordinate schedules, treatment programs, discharge planning, and recommend solutions to patient care problems.
Physical Requirements

Hearing and vision adequate for communication and reading; intelligible speech and adequate language/cognitive skills. Requires sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs, kneeling, twisting, bending, crouching, crawling, reaching overhead. Lifting of patients, equipment or supplies up to 20 pounds frequently and 50 pounds occasionally. Must demonstrate appropriate exercises to patients/caregivers. Personal Protective Equipment such as gloves, goggles, gowns, masks may be required due to potential exposure to hazardous chemicals or blood and body fluids.

Education,

Experience, and Certifications
  • Master's degree in Speech Language Pathology required.
  • Applicable state license for Speech Language Pathology required.
  • BLS required per policy guidelines.
