Director of Youth Discipleship
Central United Methodist Church, Shelby, NC has an opening for the position of Director of Youth Discipleship. The Director of Youth Discipleship will build strong disciples of Christ by developing and implementing a comprehensive approach to youth ministry in the areas of relationship-building, worship, discipleship, mission and outreach, while serving as a spiritual leader and role model. Including coordination of children’s ministry is an option that may be considered if appropriate.
Responsibilities include, but not limited to: being available for youth at functions beyond the local church setting, being an advocate for the youth, coordinating curriculum and volunteers for all youth programming, providing caring support to youth and their families, communicating effectively using available media, serving as a liaison with community organizations related to youth, working with the Youth Council in visioning and planning, developing youth leadership, completing general administrative and budgeting tasks, and assisting the pastor with confirmation.
Qualified applicants should have a deep and personal faith in Jesus Christ, knowledge of the Christian faith within the Wesleyan tradition, being comfortable with United Methodist polity and structure, a bachelor’s degree in a related field, and an understanding of faith development for adolescents and youth.
