Forklift Operator, Material Handler
Position Summary
Performs semi-skilled work operating a variety of material handling equipment to transport component parts and finished goods. Responsible for setting up production lines while maintaining inventory accuracy by scanning parts to and from proper locations. Other duties include maintaining assigned forklift, reporting maintenance or damage to equipment, right-sizing and processing inventory, and providing material handling support for production lines to ensure schedule attainment.
Dutiesand Responsibilities
- Operates a variety of material handling/forklift equipment including Conventional, Stockpickers, Reach Trucks, Tuggers and Walkie Stackers. This could require getting on and off the lift throughout the shift.
- Ccorrectly and consistently use visual management and safety alerts.
- Moves inventory in and out of production and warehouse areas correctly.
- Maintain inventory accuracy by scanning parts to and from proper locations.
- Right-size/consolidate inventory to 80% utilization using the correct LPN types and storage media.
- Performs daily inspections on forklifts according to checklist/Infolink.
- Safely maneuvers the facility on forklift.
- Correctly track parts using the RF device and WM system.
- Perform on-the job training as needed.
- Responsible for daily 6S activities, such as housekeeping, maintaining an organized and safe work area, and any appropriate paperwork/check sheets.
- Cross train in all areas of Material Handling including both locations, SIC and 305.
- Work assigned overtime when necessary.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Ability to complete forklift training classes and obtain an MTD/SBD forklift license.
- Ability to safely operate and maintain equipment through daily inspections.
- Ability to use an RF gun.
- Ability to lift 40 pounds consistently, bend, squat and stand or walk for extended periods of time.
- Ability to use the scale for weigh counting.
- Basic math skills and the ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with all levels of the organization.
- Ability to work, contribute and succeed in a team environment.
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent experience. (Case-by-case review)
- Forklift license
- Driver’s license required
- Must be able to work in a factory environment.
