Job Description

This is a highly skilled, multi-craft maintenance position responsible for the installation, repair, and troubleshooting of complex industrial machinery and electrical systems within an operational plant. The role requires expert proficiency in industrial electricity, including PLC programming, motor drives, and circuit installation, combined with robust mechanical skills for machine alignment, heavy equipment movement, fabrication, and repair. The individual is expected to utilize blueprints and precision tools to diagnose malfunctions, execute preventative maintenance, adhere strictly to safety protocols (like Arc Flash safety), and contribute actively to training and continuous process improvement initiatives.

This is a second shift role that works from 2 PM to 1 AM Monday-Thursday, most weeks have OT on Fridays. Will get a minimum of 10 hours OT/week. You will start off on first shift until you are trained and up to speed.

Requirements

Diagnose and Repair Industrial Systems: Inspect, troubleshoot, and analyze failures in complex equipment, making necessary repairs and adjustments to tools, mechanical systems, and major electrical infrastructure (power, light, and control circuits).

PLC and Automation Expertise: Install, troubleshoot, and program PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) and AC/DC digital drives, and work proficiently with sensors, relays, and other control components.

Machinery Installation and Alignment (Millwright Work): Move, dismantle, assemble, and align heavy industrial machinery like conveyors and shafting using precision tools (micrometers, plumb bobs), hoists, and trucks; also construct machine foundations.

Fabrication and Improvement: Read blueprints and schematics to guide work, produce new or replacement parts (including operating an engine lathe), and develop and implement ideas to improve equipment reliability and operational efficiency.

Education & Experience: Requires a Journeyman Certificate. Must have a strong working knowledge of the electrical and mechanical operations of all major production equipment (e.g., looper, mills, cutoff presses) and non-production equipment (e.g., cranes, air compressors).

Apprenticeship & Certification: Must successfully complete a four-year state-approved Maintenance Electrician Apprenticeship program, which includes approximately 765 classroom hours and 8,000 hours of related on-the-job experience.

Technical Knowledge: Must understand and have a working knowledge of the operation, correct application, and method of use for various measuring instruments used in maintenance repairs.

Maintenance Disciplines: Required to understand at least four of the five core maintenance disciplines (electrical, hydraulic, mechanical, plumbing, and welding) and have a working knowledge of the fifth discipline (Welding) through formal training.

Reasoning & Problem-Solving: Ability to solve practical problems, interpret complex instructions/blueprints, and exercise considerable judgment in selecting and using materials and tools for construction and maintenance.

Physical Demands: Required to frequently walk, stand, stoop, kneel, and crouch. Must regularly lift up to 50 pounds and frequently lift up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities are required (close, distance, depth perception).
