The City of Shelbyville is accepting applications for a full-time Deputy City Engineer.
General Duties- Assisting and supporting the City Engineer/Public Works Director to plan, organize, direct, coordinate, and evaluate all Public Works and engineering activities and programs for the city
- Supervising and supporting the Stormwater/Engineering Technician and Engineering/GIS Technician
- Assisting with emergency operations and roadway traffic control in the event of snow, flooding, storms, or downed debris
- Enforcing the overall policies and procedures of Public Works and engineering projects
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a comparable field
- Five (5) years of directly related experience
- Two (2) years in a supervisory capacity preferred, but not required
- Technical drafting skills, practices, and methods including storm drainage systems, streets, and erosion/sediment control
- Knowledge of the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Phase I or II Municipal Stormwater permit requirements
- Knowledge of permit processing and engineering plan review
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, codes, regulations, and ordinances related to stormwater design, environmental protection, BMPs, NPDES, water quality standards, and critical area protection
- Knowledge of erosion and sediment control (ESC) BMPs for construction projects
- Knowledge of Low Impact Development (LID) methods related to stormwater quality designs
- Ability to analyze stormwater infrastructure design, construction, and mitigation
- Ability to read and interpret civil engineering plans and designs
- Ability to review engineering computations related to design of stormwater conveyance, water quality, and research and development facilities
- Knowledge of general computer applications, stormwater software, CAD, design software, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
- Ability to use office software such as Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point
- Ability to solve problems and work as part of a team
- Ability to communicate and interact with others effectively, both orally and in writing
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with city officers, employees, contractors, government agencies, and the general public
$76,908 - $96,110 annually, based on experience. Excellent benefits package.
