General SummaryWork with Grower/Producer farm accounts, applying sales skills to grow sales and maintain existing customers. Call on current and prospective Growers/Producers within Southern States' footprint, providing technical expertise. The role involves selling products and programs.
Essential Job Functions- Call on customers independently to solicit sales, answer questions, and recommend best practices related to our products and services.
- Coordinate with management and operations to develop prospect lists, provide market intelligence, and schedule product delivery.
- Participate in community meetings, USDA, Extension meetings, and engage with local agricultural councils.
- Provide technical assistance on best management practices, weed and pest identification, and recommend SSC products and services.
- Coordinate resources to address customer issues, working with specialists, vendors, and management. Maintain relationships with land grant universities and extension personnel.
- Use CRM tools to maintain customer records, prospect lists, and report weekly sales activities and expenses.
- Plan and coordinate meetings with current and prospective customers.
- Promote company programs like John Deere Financial and Grow Master as sales tools.
- Represent the cooperative professionally, wearing approved uniforms and maintaining vehicle condition.
- Attend training sessions and stay updated on industry trends and products, utilizing various resources.
- Pursue continuing education, including crop certification seminars, and hold relevant licenses or certifications if applicable.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in agronomy preferred; experience may substitute for education.
Experience:
3-5 years in agronomic sales preferred; experience in field scouting and making agronomic recommendations.
- Knowledge of Crop Precision Ag programs (GPS, mapping, etc.).
- Ability to sell fertilizers, seeds, and chemicals.
- Develop sales strategies to meet goals.
- Effective communication, organizational, and presentation skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Willingness to travel up to 95%, including overnight stays.
Varies by location; includes indoor, warehouse, and outdoor settings with exposure to weather and hazards such as chemicals, machinery, and noise. Schedule may vary, with extended hours and adverse weather conditions possible.
Physical Activities & RequirementsIncludes bending, stooping, manual dexterity, reaching, standing, walking, twisting, pulling, pushing, and lifting up to 50 pounds regularly, with assistance for heavier loads. Climbing, crouching, and kneeling may be required occasionally. Must communicate effectively and have appropriate vision abilities.
Tools & EquipmentVaries but may include scanners, radios, computers, vehicles, and specialized agricultural equipment.
