Job SummaryThe Surgical Physician Assistant works in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team providing healthcare in ambulatory and acute care settings, managing surgical patients through pre‑operative, peri‑operative, and post‑operative phases. The PA demonstrates medical knowledge, clinical judgment, technical competence, professionalism, communication skills, compliant documentation, and ongoing professional development.
Department SummaryVanderbilt’s Department of Plastic Surgery is one of eight departments in the Section of Surgical Sciences. The department is recognized nationally as a top 100 hospital and runs competitive residency and fellowship programs. Faculty guide training of nationally renowned plastic surgeons and lead research across specialties.
Preferred Qualifications- At least 2 years of surgical experience

Key Responsibilities- Obtain and document health history; perform and document physical examination, assessment, and care plan.
- Provide primary, acute, and complex care, managing patient overall care and identifying expected outcomes.
- Order, perform, interpret and collect diagnostic data and procedures as indicated.
- Form differential diagnoses and treat acute and chronic conditions.
- Prescribe therapeutic interventions, pharmacologic, non‑pharmacologic, and surgical, to achieve outcomes.
- Utilize evidence-based practice protocols in care planning and implementation.
- Initiate referrals and consultations.
- Provide specialty‑specific consultation services within scope of practice.
- Facilitate patient transition between health care settings (admission, transfer, discharge).
