The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) functions primarily as an inpatient hospitalist in an acute care hospital setting, managing the care of acute and complex chronically ill patients. The APP may also provide follow‑up outpatient visits for the same patient population.

The APP works in collaboration with a multidisciplinary health care team, demonstrating advanced medical and nursing knowledge, clinical competence, and sound clinical judgment. The APP is responsible for professional development, competency validation, and compliance with documentation standards.

• Assessment of Health Status, complete history and physical examination for acute and complex chronically ill patients.
• Order and collect data using appropriate assessment techniques and diagnostic procedures.
• Serve as first responder for nursing and house staff for patient status changes and procedural interventions.
• Assess risks associated with patient care, including medication side effects, immobility, impaired nutrition, fluids and electrolytes, immunocompetence, invasive interventions, and diagnostic procedures.
• Coordinate daily rounds, present 24‑hour patient reports, collaborate in plan of care, and follow assigned patient population throughout the day.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team in making diagnoses of acute and complex chronic conditions and manage diagnostic tests.
• Formulate differential diagnoses, diagnose complications, and order appropriate interventions.
• Formulate and document a plan of care to address complex acute and chronic health care needs.
• Utilize evidence‑based practice guidelines or protocols in an individualized, dynamic plan of care across the continuum.
• Prescribe diagnostic strategies and therapeutic interventions pharmacologic, non‑pharmacologic, and surgical to achieve expected outcomes.
• May perform advanced procedures consistent with privileges, including minor suturing, complex wound management, line and tube placements and removals.
• Maintain ongoing communication and collaboration with interdisciplinary health care team and facilitate patient, family, and staff communication for continuity of care across the inpatient and outpatient continuum.
• Document key components of patient progress via daily progress note, transfer, and discharge summary, and clinic note where applicable.
• Demonstrate professional practice behaviors including preceptor/mentoring, education and instruction of students, nursing staff, and other physician assistants.

• Certification: LIC‑Physician's Assistant Certified – Tennessee
• Experience Level: Less than 1 year
• Education:
  
  Master’s degree required
• Relevant work experience in acute inpatient and outpatient settings preferred
