Base pay range: $26.29/hr - $26.29/hr

By joining our Shepherdsville Section as a Highway Technician II in Bullitt County, you’ll have the opportunity to coordinate highway construction or maintenance projects and inspect mowing and snow removal contracts and/or monitor and verify equipment rental usage contractors.

Summary of Responsibilities
  • Operate equipment such as a boom saw, excavator or self‑propelled paver.
  • Complete daily inspection reports.
  • Serve as a quality assurance inspector.
  • Coordinate crew assignments.
  • Train new employees.

Additional position information:
Incumbents in this job title must possess the ability to work, sit, stoop and bend. Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds. Must be able to respond to emergencies.

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION: High school graduate.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR

SKILLS:

Must have eight years of construction or highway maintenance experience.

Substitute EDUCATION for

EXPERIENCE:

Graduate of a college or university with an associate's degree in engineering technology, construction management, engineering science, engineering mechanics, geology, earth science, industrial drafting, design technology, construction technology or a related field will substitute for two (2) years of the highway related experience in construction and maintenance. Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree in engineering will substitute for four (4) years of the highway related experience in construction and maintenance.

Graduate of a college or university with an associate's degree in Engineering Technology with completion of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet's Civil Engineering Technology Scholarship Program will substitute for six (6) years of highway related experience in construction or maintenance. College coursework related to any of these fields will substitute for experience on a year‑for‑year basis.

EDUCATION:

NONE

Special Requirements (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.)

Must be 18 years of age. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a Class A commercial driver's license with tanker endorsement to qualify for employment in this job classification. The employee must successfully complete the KYTC Highway Technician Academy Level 3 or equivalent within one year of employment in this job classification. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this classification.

Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials.

Working Conditions

Incumbents in this job title typically perform their work at a highway maintenance facility or section office, at work sites throughout the assigned work area and when necessary, district wide. Incumbent will be exposed to risks inherent to working with large equipment and machines involved with road construction. Must be able to work extended hours and be outside during inclement weather.
