Job Description

The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) provides assessment, management, and outcome evaluation for patients in inpatient and outpatient settings. The APRN serves as an educational resource, liaison with UofL physicians, and participant in clinical research. The APRN demonstrates advanced medical and nursing knowledge, clinical and technical competency, sound clinical judgment, professionalism, and timely documentation, while maintaining ongoing professional development and competency validation.

Responsibilities
  • Assess the physical and psychosocial status of clients by interview, health history, physical examination, and diagnostic studies for both inpatient and outpatient services.
  • Recognize deviations from normal during physical assessment; collaborate with physician to formulate treatment plans and follow‑up.
  • Manage specialty clinic and oversee survivorship program and clinic operations.
  • Write prescriptions for medication, blood tests, routine diagnostic and follow‑up studies, and therapeutic measures.
  • Request written consultation from physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure appropriate and quality patient care.
  • Interpret and evaluate findings of studies/tests.
  • Relay appropriate information regarding patient care to collaborating physicians.
  • Evaluate quality of care provided and recommend changes for improvement.
  • Initiate actions to facilitate implementation of therapeutic plans consistent with ongoing healthcare needs.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary conferences and ensure appropriate, quality care.
  • Provide symptom management for side effects related to oncologic treatment.
  • Assist with admissions.
  • Work both collaboratively and independently.
  • Share clinical expertise with professional and supportive personnel.
  • Document and report care in an accurate, timely manner.
  • Collaborate with other health disciplines to ensure continuity and quality of care.
  • Promote evidence‑based nursing practice and research by participating in clinical research and leading scientific inquiry.
  • Assist in the operating room when necessary.
  • Maintain professional certification in specialty area and attend national, regional, and local educational conferences.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Shift Requirements
  • Varied schedule (no overnight shifts).
  • Mutually agreed upon call schedule.
  • Overtime: infrequently / sometimes / often (exempt position).
  • Maintain compliance with all company policies, procedures, and standards of conduct.
  • Comply with HIPAA privacy and security requirements.
Education
  • Master of Nursing degree from an accredited institution.
Licensure
  • Current licensure in Kentucky as an APRN.
Certification
  • National certification as an Adult Nurse Practitioner, Emergency Nurse Practitioner, Family Nurse Practitioner, or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner.
  • Current DEA certificate without restriction.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • ACLS certified.
