The Role

As an English Teacher, you will:

  • Deliver engaging and high-quality English Language and English Literature lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4, with opportunities to teach Key Stage 5 where applicable.
  • Plan and prepare creative lessons that challenge and motivate students of all abilities.
  • Foster a positive learning environment that encourages students to develop confidence in reading, writing, speaking, and critical thinking.
  • Assess, monitor, and track student progress, providing timely and constructive feedback to support achievement.
  • Differentiate lessons effectively to meet the needs of all learners, including those with additional educational needs.
  • Promote high standards of behaviour, engagement, and academic achievement within the classroom.
  • Support students in preparing for GCSE examinations and achieving their academic goals.
  • Contribute to departmental initiatives, curriculum development, and extracurricular activities such as reading clubs, creative writing groups, or school productions.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, and support staff to ensure the best possible outcomes for students.
What We Are Looking For

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A recognised teaching qualification (QTS, QTLS, or equivalent).
  • Experience teaching English within a secondary school setting.
  • Strong subject knowledge in English Language and English Literature.
  • A passion for literacy and the ability to inspire students to engage with a wide range of texts and genres.
  • Excellent classroom management and organisational skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • The ability to build positive and productive relationships with students, colleagues, and parents.
  • A flexible and adaptable approach to teaching, with a commitment to meeting individual student needs.
  • An Enhanced Child Workforce DBS registered on the Update Service, or a willingness to apply for one.
