Provides direct, procedural care for patients in the Cardiac Catheterization Lab. Communicates continuously with the physician and Cath/IR Lab staff about patient condition. Assists physician during invasive and noninvasive procedures through monitoring and/or scrubbing procedures. Operates all equipment safely and correctly. Performs imaging procedures and is responsible for patient safety protocols. Participates in the performance improvement and continuous quality (CQI) improvement activities of the Cardiac Cath/IR Lab.
Supports and maintains a culture of people, safety, service excellence and quality, fiscal responsibility. Resource for Radiation safety for the department. May work in other units as oriented/assigned.

- Assist other ancillary departments with procedural processes requiring subject-matter expert care.
- Establishes and maintains effective communication and good working relationships with coworkers for the patient’s benefit, through email, SBAR, and daily interaction.
- Service
- Approaches patient and family in a kind, gentle manner. Treating them with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic and religious/spiritual needs of patients and their families.
- Demonstrates the ability to handle emergency situations during low-, moderate- and high-risk procedures.
- Ensuring that patient has understanding pre-, intra- and post-operative processes, and education performed pre-operatively for recovery.
- Safety
- Performs call for Cath Lab and Interventional Radiology, responding to all Call-back notifications within 5 minutes, and assumes patient care within 30 minutes of notification (able to take patient at 30 minutes).
- Checks LMP prior to procedure for all women of childbearing years.
- Ensures proper function/operation of radiological equipment and radiation safety of the team and patients. Notify appropriate personnel if safety processes are contaminated or unsafe, to eliminate untoward events.
- Identifies situations that put patient at increased risk for cardiac arrest, and modifies processes to keep patients hemodynamic status stable.
- Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
- Ensures use of universal protocol on all procedures, and maintains aseptic technique where necessary.
- Strict adoption of radiological processes per protocol.
- Practice safe administration of medications (8 rights of medication administration) within the critical care setting based on age, weight, labs and medical condition of patient, and individualizes plan of administration.
- Responsible as subject matter expert regarding hematoma management post-procedure for hospital staff.
- Adherent to infection control policies, including PPE use.
