SummaryThis position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) – a student loan payment reimbursement program. Eligible applicants must meet specific requirements and submit an EDRP application within four months of appointment. Award amounts are up to $200,000 and determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office.
Duties- Provides specialized treatment of PTSD and associated mental health needs in the Mental Health Programs.
- Incorporates complex multiple causation in differential diagnosis and treatment of Veterans patients – including making psychosocial & psychiatric diagnoses.
- Evaluates the client's situation – including the Veteran's reaction & ability to deal with it – and arrives at a reasoned conclusion.
- Provides individual, group, and family psychotherapy interventions for Veterans with post‑traumatic stress disorder and comorbid mental health needs.
- Implements Measurement‑Based Care to assess effectiveness of clinical practice and improve treatment services.
- Develops treatment plans in coordination with appropriate PCT & BHIP team members, including goals for treatment.
- Provides independent consultation and makes recommendations to the interdisciplinary team on course of treatment.
- Demonstrates the ability to adjust treatment plans based on empirical findings and to accommodate emergency or urgent care matters.
- Interviews Veterans and their family members/significant others to gather facts about the Veteran’s situation, presenting problems, causes, and impact on functioning and health.
- Uses subjective & objective data to make clinical assessments of the Veteran's needs.
- Shows advanced clinical training and experience to identify viable treatment options and make appropriate referrals for care.
- Assists Veterans who are not able to engage in detailed PCT care by facilitating return to the Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Program (BHIP) to develop coping skills for future evidence‑based psychotherapies.
- Assesses at‑risk factors and develops a preliminary disposition plan involving Veterans and their family or significant others.
- Assesses serious & complicated cases involving psychiatric illness, catastrophic medical conditions, dementia, and other high‑risk diagnoses.
- Makes independent professional decisions & recommendations for treatment.
- Finds a suitable means of treatment to help Veterans and/or significant others cope with stressful situations.
- Provides quality therapy using evidence‑based psychotherapies (EBP) and national EBP templates.
- Evaluates clinical practice regularly through peer review, case conferences, or other organized means.
- Acts as a community & family liaison, initiating and maintaining necessary contact with the patient, VA healthcare system programs, mental health agencies, and related resource agencies.
- Provides support & consultation to varying individuals, programs, and agencies as necessary or in the best interest of the patient.
Work Schedule:
Monday‑Friday, 7:30 am – 4:00 pm (Telework: Ad‑hoc)
