GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
As a Public Health Nurse in Sheridan County, you’ll be at the forefront of promoting health and preventing disease within your community. Public Health Nursing focuses on fostering wellness and resilience across populations. In this role, you’ll work with individuals, families, and groups to identify health needs, provide essential healthcare services, and connect people with health resources.
Our Public Health Nurses deliver a wide range of services tailored to community health, including administering vaccines, offering disease screenings, and educating the public on health risks and healthy behaviors. You’ll help shape health policies, coordinate health initiatives, and respond to public health emergencies to ensure every community member has support to thrive.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSThe listed functions are illustrative and may not describe every function that may be performed at this job level.
- Conduct nursing assessments, diagnoses, treatments, and evaluations in line with ANA Public Health Nursing Standards.
- Arrange and lead community health clinics and health education classes.
- Support public health core functions, prioritizing services that meet community needs.
- Administer adult and child vaccines, provide STI/HIV testing, manage TB testing, and more.
- Provide Ryan White case management, maternal and child home visitation, lactation counseling, and LT-101 reviews.
- Collaborate with the nurse manager and public health response coordinator on emergency preparedness activities.
Must be licensed or eligible for licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Wyoming. A valid driver's license is required.
KNOWLEDGE- Knowledge of nursing laws, principles, practices, and techniques.
- Knowledge of medical records maintenance, charts, reports, and observations.
- Knowledge of nursing process and scientific methods.
- Knowledge of applying medical diagnosis and treatment to patient care.
- Knowledge of scientific concepts as a basis for decision-making.
- Knowledge of evaluation services and programs according to standards.
- Knowledge of work management and leadership theory and practice.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local healthcare laws.
- Knowledge of public health core functions and essential services.
Education: Associate’s Degree in Nursing
Experience: 0-2 years of progressive nursing experience with knowledge at the LPN level
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must be licensed or eligible for licensure as an RN in Wyoming
Education & Experience Substitution: 3-5 years of progressive nursing experience with LPN-level knowledge; must be licensed or eligible for RN in Wyoming
PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS- Lift equipment up to 50 lbs.
