Position Overview

This hourly position is based out of Gallery Visual Arts Instructor II will work within a team environment to develop and implement creative, age‑appropriate programs for the community. Responsibilities include supporting and delivering a range of visual arts programs, classes, camps and workshops.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and deliver visual arts programs, classes, camps and workshops to a wide variety of audiences within an inclusive, positive, safe and creative learning environment.
  • Plan, develop and deliver activities incorporating a variety of art forms and media such as drawing, painting, printmaking, fibre art, art history and contemporary art theory.
  • Consider skill development and progression, arts education approaches to maximize participant learning, appreciation and engagement.
  • For children and youth, incorporate interests and support emotional, artistic, social development and fine motor skill progression.
  • For school groups, understand curriculum connections and teacher objectives to support educational success.
  • Prepare materials for each program and create and refine project samples in advance.
  • Ensure program spaces are clean, safe, and compliant with County OHS guidelines.
  • Provide excellent guest service and collaborate positively within a team environment.
  • Manage forms, documents and communications with participants during class.
  • Communicate any questions, issues or concerns to the Recreation Programmer.
  • Assist with programming documentation, administration and site preparation.
  • Provide safe supervision and ensure health and safety regulations are followed.
  • Lead role in coordinating and delivering seasonal camp programs and activities.
Requirements
  • Positive, proven leadership and team‑building skills.
  • Ability to maintain high standards of respect, safety, quality and cooperation.
  • Time‑management skills and ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Outstanding problem‑solving and communication skills.
  • Classroom management skills.
  • Completed one to two years of post‑secondary education in visual arts, education or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Two years of work experience instructing art programs to a variety of ages in group settings is highly desired.
  • Demonstrated experience working with children.
  • Participation in Strathcona County’s Leaders in Training program is considered an asset.
  • Experience with artistic media including: painting, drawing, contemporary art, cultural arts, Indigenous arts, ceramics, glass, fibre arts, textiles, sewing and multidisciplinary skills.
Conditions Of Employment
  • Submission of satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • Current First Aid and CPR (Level

    C) certification.
  • Ability to lift 20 lbs., supply totes and stand for extended periods.
Salary & Benefits

Pay Range: $26.22 – $32.80 per hour.
