Overview

The Receiving Inspector is responsible for ensuring all incoming materials, components, and equipment meet defined quality standards and specifications before release to production. This role plays a critical part in maintaining product integrity, supplier quality, and overall manufacturing excellence.

Roles & Responsibilities Incoming Inspection and Verification
  • Perform inspections of incoming materials, components, and assemblies against engineering drawings, specifications, and purchase requirements.
  • Verify dimensional, visual, and functional compliance using appropriate inspection tools.
  • Review certificates of conformance (CoCs), material test reports (MTRs), and Supplier documentation for accuracy and completeness.
  • Identify nonconforming materials and initiate containment actions.
Quality Control & Documentation
  • Accurately record inspection results in quality systems (ERP/MES or inspection databases).
  • Completed inspection reports and maintain traceability of materials and components.
  • Support maintenance of incoming inspection procedures, checklists, and work instructions.
Nonconformance Management
  • Raise and process Nonconformance Reports (NCRs) for rejected materials.
  • Evaluate disposition (use-as-is, rework, reject) in collaboration with Quality Engineering.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and internal teams on corrective actions.
Supplier Quality Support
  • Provide feedback to Supplier Quality and Procurement on supplier performance.
  • Assist in supplier evaluation, audits, and development initiatives as needed.
  • Monitor recuring defects and identify trends in supplier quality issues.
Measurement & Equipment Handling
  • Uses and maintain precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, bore gauges, and CMM (if applicable).
  • Ensure inspection tools are calibrated and in proper working condition.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Work closely with Purchasing, Warehouse, Engineering, and Production teams.
  • Support material disposition decisions to minimize production delays while ensuring compliance.
  • Perform all duties in accordance with Silent‑Aire Limited Partnership safety program standards and the Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulations, and Code.
  • Support and participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and ensure adherence to safe‑work practices.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Technical diploma, certification, or equivalent experience in Quality, Manufacturing, or a related field.
  • 2 to 5 years of quality control or receiving inspection experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings; knowledge of GD&T and quality standards (ISO 9001, AS9100, API, or similar) preferred.
  • Proficient in inspection methods, measurement tools, and ERP/QMS systems.
  • Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, problem-solving, and documentation skills.
  • Effective communicator with the ability to work independently, make sound quality decisions, and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrates accountability, integrity, a quality-focused mindset, and commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Comfortable in a manufacturing and warehouse environment.

Document control systems proficiency;
Microsoft Office.

  • Understanding of inspection workflows (assembly/electrical/welding) to validate completeness.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build strong working relationships.
  • Works effectively on individual tasks, maintaining productivity and accountability with minimal supervision.
  • Strong organizational skills with a proven ability to prioritize tasks, resolve issues, and consistently meet deadlines.
Working Conditions
  • Manufacturing/commercial/industrial environment with PPE.
  • Potential exposure to energized systems under controlled procedures.
  • Must have the ability to stand for extended periods throughout each shift.
  • Overtime may be available occasionally with work volume.
