Local Engineering Ltd. is an Alberta based engineering services provider supporting a select group of recurring clients. Local’s unique approach is to develop a long‑term relationship with our clients, becoming the “owner’s engineer” and prioritizing client needs. We have a wide-ranging and diverse client base to help stabilize our workload when some markets are in a downturn. The quickly growing Local Engineering team is small but nimble, with a one‑of‑a‑kind collaborative team environment.

The Senior Electrical Engineer (P.Eng.) will provide electrical and instrumentation engineering support on a variety of projects/clients including modifications to existing facilities, conceptual design of improvement ideas, replacement of existing equipment and design and implementation of new capital projects. The pace of work is fast and changes from day to day, which requires an agile person who can manage and execute many activities simultaneously in a challenging environment.

• Graduate of a recognized university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering
• Registered as a P.Eng. with APEGA.
• Registered as a P. Eng in other provinces is considered an asset.
• Registered as a PE in the US is considered an asset.
• Familiarity with relevant electrical codes (CSA, IEEE, API, ANSI, CEC).
• Familiarity with development of single line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, electrical layouts, cable schedules, EHT isometrics and other key design documents.
• Ability to develop a complete engineering work package including construction scope of work, reports, engineering design drawings, instrument datasheets, and other deliverables as required.
• Experience with power system design software (ETAP, SKM, CYME).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite programs used to create reports and documents.
• Site and field based industrial work experience is considered an asset.
• Experience with proposal development and engineering cost estimates.
• Experience working with and mentoring junior engineers and designers.
• Experience with smart plant instrumentation (SPI) is considered an asset.
• EPC project management or project engineering experience is considered an asset.
• Familiarity with CAD design software is considered an asset.

• Execute electrical engineering activities within a multi-discipline scope of work that includes everything from conceptual design development through to detailed design, procurement support, construction support and commissioning, depending on the needs of the client.
• Participate in multi-discipline projects, including developing deliverables from concept through calculations and detailed design, and final / stamped issue.
• Remain current with developing technologies in both electrical engineering as well as control and instrumentation technologies.
• Engage directly with clients to understand their requirements and expectations and deliver top quality solutions.
• Perform detailed reviews of project electrical design specifications, design drawings and standard detail drawings.
• Perform calculations including load studies, lighting levels, hazardous area classifications, cable sizing and voltage drop.
• Develop Engineering Work Packages including single line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, electrical layouts, control panel layouts, instrument layouts, installation details, hazardous area layouts, and written construction work steps.
