Behaviour Support Worker – Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) – Shildon

Part-Time | Monday to Friday | 9:00am – 2:30pm
£15.00 per hour

Are you passionate about supporting young people to overcome barriers to learning? We are looking for a dedicated and resilient Behaviour Support Worker to join a welcoming Pupil Referral Unit in Shildon. This rewarding part‑time role involves working closely with teenagers who require additional support to engage in education, helping them build confidence, resilience and positive relationships.

The Role
  • Support students aged 11–16 within the classroom and around the school.
  • Build positive relationships to encourage engagement and personal development.
  • Promote positive behaviour using consistent and restorative approaches.
  • Work alongside teachers and support staff to create a safe and inclusive learning environment.
  • Support pupils with both their academic learning and social development.
The Ideal Candidate
  • Experience working with teenagers is essential
    .
  • Previous experience supporting young people with challenging behaviour, SEMH needs, or within a PRU, alternative provision or similar setting is essential
    .
  • Calm, patient and resilient, with excellent communication skills.
  • Able to build strong, professional relationships with young people.
  • A keen interest in sports or football is highly desirable, as this can be used to engage and motivate students through positive activities and relationship building.
