Buyer Senior Buyer

OFFICE-BASED BUYER – CIVIL ENGINEERING

PLS Civil Engineering Ltd is looking for an experienced and commercially minded Buyer to join our team.

This is a full-time, office-based position supporting our civil engineering projects throughout the UK. You will be responsible for sourcing and purchasing materials, plant, equipment and subcontract services, ensuring that the business receives competitive prices and that everything is delivered in accordance with project programmes.

Key responsibilities:

* Obtain and evaluate quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.

* Negotiate competitive prices, credit terms and delivery arrangements.

* Procure construction materials, hired plant, equipment and subcontract services.

* Raise and manage purchase orders.

* Check orders against quotations, specifications and project requirements.

* Coordinate deliveries with site managers and project teams.

* Monitor outstanding orders and resolve shortages, delays or incorrect deliveries.

* Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers.

* Identify alternative suppliers and opportunities for cost savings.

* Maintain accurate purchasing records and supplier information.

* Assist with invoice queries and reconciliation.

* Work closely with estimating, commercial and operational teams.

* Ensure purchases comply with company procedures and agreed project budgets.

The successful candidate should have:

* Previous buying or procurement experience within civil engineering, construction, utilities or a related sector.

* Good knowledge of construction materials, plant hire and subcontract procurement.

* Strong negotiation and communication skills.

* Good commercial awareness and attention to detail.

* The ability to manage multiple orders and changing site priorities.

* Confidence using Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Outlook.

* Experience raising purchase orders and working with accounting or procurement systems.

* A reliable, organised and proactive approach.

Experience purchasing drainage products, aggregates, concrete, reinforcement, ducting, temporary works equipment and heavy plant would be advantageous.
