Machinist Mold Finisher & Repair Technician
Direct Hire | Shoreview, MN | $28 - $35/hour – DOQ
1st, 2nd, or weekend shifts available.
Overview:
We are seeking a Mold Finisher & Repair Technician to support the maintenance, finishing, and repair of precision injection molds. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong bench and machining skills who wants to grow into a Toolmaker career path. You’ll work closely with senior toolmakers and engineers, gaining valuable hands-on experience with complex molds used in precision plastic injection molding.
Key Responsibilities:
- Inspect, clean, and polish mold cavities, cores, and components to meet specifications and surface finish requirements.
- Perform bench work, including stoning, spotting, grinding, and polishing of mold surfaces.
- Disassemble, repair, and reassemble molds to restore functionality and extend tool life.
- Troubleshoot and correct tooling issues related to flash, mismatch, and parting line wear.
- Document repairs, adjustments, and modifications in maintenance logs.
- Collaborate with toolmakers, machinists, and engineers on mold modifications and improvements.
- Operate machining equipment (mills, lathes, grinders, and surface grinders) to rework or fabricate mold components as needed.
- Perform precision measurement checks using micrometers, calipers, and gauges to verify the accuracy of work.
- Assist with preventative maintenance programs to minimize downtime.
- Support production by ensuring molds are returned to service in optimal condition.
Qualifications:
- Technical diploma, certificate, or equivalent experience in mold repair, finishing, or machining.
- 1–2 years of experience in mold finishing, repair, or related machining work (apprentice-level candidates encouraged to apply).
- Hands-on skills with polishing, spotting, and bench repair.
- Familiarity with machining operations such as milling, turning, and grinding.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, tool drawings, and specifications.
- Knowledge of plastic injection mold construction and maintenance practices is a plus.
- Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving abilities.
- Team-oriented with strong communication skills.
