Toolmaker – Plastic Injection Molding

Direct Hire | Shoreview, MN | $34 - $44/hour – DOQ

1st, 2nd, and weekend shifts available

We are seeking an experienced Toolmaker to support the design, build, repair, and optimization of precision molds used in plastic injection molding. This position plays a key role in ensuring tooling is built and maintained to the highest standards, supporting medical and high-precision manufacturing projects.

Responsibilities:
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair complex tools and molds.
  • Review and interpret blueprints, sketches, models, or part descriptions to determine required materials and machining methods.
  • Plan layouts, compute dimensions, and determine assembly methods and sequences.
  • Verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances on new and existing tooling.
  • Recommend design improvements for tooling and related production equipment.
  • Set up and operate machine tools (lathes, milling machines, grinders, EDM, etc.) to fabricate precision parts.
  • Ensure conformance of machined parts to specifications using precision measurement equipment.
  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to support tooling development and continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications:
  • Two-year technical degree in Tool & Die making or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of toolmaking experience with injection molds (medical device experience a plus).
  • Solid knowledge of various tool steels, machining practices, and mold design.
  • Experience with medical-grade resins and miniature molds preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in reading blueprints and applying trigonometry in toolmaking.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
