Registers patients for procedures within the hospital and other Summit Healthcare facilities; attains demographic and insurance/benefit information; and provides financial services for all patients.
Essential Functions / Major Responsibilities- Responsible for gathering patient data (demographics)
- Copy Insurance card
- Referral to vendor for private pay patients.
- Verifies insurance via verification tool.
- Refers accounts to financial counselor.
- Collects patient portions of fees.
- Admits and discharge patients.
- Contacts Insurance Companies for Inpatient Benefit & Notification.
- Coordinates services with other departments
- Obtain necessary signatures
- Assist with chart audits for accuracy
- Assist with updating and correcting errors in Paragon
- Assist with training new employees.
- Displays proper etiquette and mannerisms that reflect the SHINE Behavior Standards.
- Promotes the Patient Safety Standards as a core value of the organization.
- Cross‑train with all Patient Registration areas:
Outpatient, ER, and Surgery. - Understand and work Reports
- Participates in departmental and hospital wide informational meetings and in services, including staff meetings, hospital wide forums, and seminars.
- Reviews department and hospital wide policies and procedures annually.
- All other duties as assigned.

Job Skills & Mental Activities
This position requires operational knowledge of all equipment in the Admitting areas, including: fax, printer, copy machine, phone systems, scanners, and all computer programs required to retrieve and input information. This employee must be service oriented and have excellent customer service skills, computer skills, organizational skills, multitasking skills, professional interpersonal skills, time management skills, the ability to prioritize work, and telephone etiquette.
This employee must be familiar with and abide by all HIPAA rules and regulations. This employee must be able to function in a high stress area with multiple priorities and multiple sources of request, with a fast pace in decision making. This employee must also maintain a professional demeanor in traumatic situations. Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
- High school diploma or equivalent (required).
- Basic computer skills (required).
- One year related experience (preferred).
- Medical terminology (preferred).
- For positions in the laboratory and other clinical areas (CPR required within 60 days of hire and must be maintained throughout employment)
