This is a PRN non benefited position in Wound Care. Hours may vary depending on the need.
General Position Summary:
This position is responsible for the coordination of wound care, ostomy care, and preservation of skin integrity. These include, but are not limited to, utilization of skills in organization, planning, implementing, evaluation, and providing care through the use of hospital and nursing standards.
Essential Functions / Major Responsibilities:
· Provides specific assessments according to protocols and procedures, clinical competence in procedural skills, treatments, and patient/caregiver education related to wound care management, and acts as patient advocate in delivery and coordination of patient care.
· Participates in policy development as it pertains to wound, skin care, and ostomies.
· Participates in IDT and/or Physician rounding.
· Collaborates with other health care providers, wound care center Physicians, Program Director and Medical Director, regarding patient needs.
· Manage patient wound VAC therapy and maintenance to include care of equipment.
· Displays proper etiquette and mannerisms that reflect the SHINE Behavior Guidelines.
· Promotes the Patient Safety Standards as a core value of the organization.
· Collaborates with outpatient wound care services to provide continuity of current or post wound care therapy needs.
· Provides a complete skin assessment on admission and for patients who are deemed high risk or have Braden scale of less than or equal to 17.
· Provides pre-and postoperative education to patients (and families) undergoing ostomy surgery. To include consideration of both physical and psychological adaptation needs
Secondary Functions:
· Participates in departmental and hospital wide informational meetings and in services, including staff meetings, hospital wide forums, and seminars.
· Reviews department and hospital wide policies and procedures annually.
· All other duties as assigned.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Completes all tasks as expressed in the Skills Delineation List.
· Accountable for the oversight of the clinical practice, outcomes and success of the Inpatient Wound Care Service line.
Job Scope:
· May be required to assist other nursing units within scope of training.
· Recurring work situations with occasional variations from the norm.

· Ability to work independently under the direction of Physicians with limited supervision.
Supervisory Responsibility:
· Delegates appropriately and provides nursing supervision in the provision of care to patients by other licensed nurses and other personnel.

Contacts:
· Are normally made with others both inside and outside the hospital.
· Are usually made with own department staff and supervisor as well as with other departments or locations.
· Frequently contain confidential/sensitive information necessitating discretion at all times.
· Are usually face-to-face, with some contact by telephone and e-mail.
· Are usually with patients, family, nursing and physician contact.
Specific Job Skills & Mental Activities:
This position requires general nursing skills and knowledge of general office equipment (including the nurse call system, telephone system, email, copy machine, computer, and commonly used hospital programs) as well as excellent computer, communication, critical thinking, problem solving, leadership, supervisory and interpersonal skills. The ability to exercise independent judgment skills when necessary. This position also requires knowledge of hospital equipment and programs, including all Hospital Information Systems.
This position requires self-direction and self-motivation. Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
Education, Licensures, and/or Experience:
· Wound Care certification preferred
· Medical Surgical, home health, or wound care experience preferred (inpatient)
· ACLS certification preferred (inpatient).
