MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • One year of law enforcement experience.
  • Experience substitution: Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university substitutes for one year of experience.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
  • Possession of a current Louisiana driver’s license.
  • Possession of an active Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification may be required.
  • Applicants with a felony conviction or under indictment will be disqualified until legal disabilities are relieved.
FUNCTION OF WORK:

To provide police services by enforcing laws and campus regulations through foot and mobile patrols.

LEVEL OF WORK:

Experienced.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

General supervision from a higher-level police official. Other relationships may be approved by SCS.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

None.

LOCATION OF WORK:

Statewide.

JOB DISTINCTIONS:
  • Differs from Police Officer 1 by experienced duties.
  • Differs from Police Officer 3 by the absence of lead responsibilities or involvement in complex operations.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
  • Protects lives and property, enforces laws, investigates crimes.
  • Provides first aid and emergency services.
  • Investigates accidents, enforces parking and traffic laws, campus regulations.
  • Conducts crime prevention, security, and traffic control programs.
  • Maintains logs and monitors alarm systems and police radio frequencies.
  • Operates police network computers and dispatches officers as needed.
