Purpose of the PositionAs a railroad Building and Bridge Mechanic, you’ll play a vital role in maintaining and repairing bridges, buildings, and other key facilities that keep railroads running safely and smoothly. If you have skills in carpentry, welding, masonry, or steel work—and enjoy hands‑on work with a variety of tools in outdoor settings—this position offers diverse tasks ranging from building repairs to ground maintenance.
PositionAccountabilities
- Build, repair and maintain CPKC-owned structures such as stations, platforms, and bridges in a safe and efficient manner.
- Utilize manual, electric, pneumatic, and hydraulic tools—along with welding and cutting equipment—to perform and assess repairs and maintenance.
- Inspect, test, and repair equipment such as hand tools, power tools, welding and cutting torches, grinders, air tools, and related devices.
- Carry out general upkeep, such as working at heights on ladders or scaffolding, clearing debris, and maintaining properties.
- Specialize in the maintenance and repair of structures including buildings, platforms and bridges, with expertise in wood framing, concrete work, snow removal, and station facilities to ensure a safe environment for employees.
- Lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
- High school diploma or general equivalency.
- At least 21 years of age.
- Background in carpentry, masonry, welding or other applicable trades.
- Structural Welder certificate.
- Valid driver’s license:
Class A commercial driver’s licence. - Strong communication skills and the ability to provide straightforward directions.

This is a safety‑sensitive position. A successful pre‑employment medical assessment, including a physical, vision, and hearing check, and a negative drug test are required. Post‑hire qualification drug testing may also be required.
