Overview
Automation Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for resolving daily tactical issues and contributing to continuous improvement and automation initiatives in the production of bioprocessing hardware solutions. This is an on-site position based in Shrewsbury, MA, reporting to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager. The role is part of the Upstream Fluid Management (UFM) Hardware Manufacturing Engineering Team.
What You Will Do- Manufacturing Technical Expertise:
Assist in troubleshooting automation software and hardware systems, contribute to the development of manufacturing tools and fixtures, and help resolve day-to-day operational issues in production. - Cross-functional Collaboration:
Support product engineering and new product automation teams in implementing and maintaining PLC, SCADA, and networking systems for bioreactor production operations across platforms like Aveva, Delta
V, and PlantPAx - Process Readiness:
Support efforts to align automation processes with manufacturing readiness for upstream bioprocessing hardware, identifying areas for improvement and sustaining production. - Quality and Process Optimizations:
Improve manufacturing efficiency and product quality by resolving automation challenges with practical, customer-focused solutions. - Compliance Awareness:
Support automation activities that uphold manufacturing quality standards and meet regulatory and company requirements through aligned and reliable processes.
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, or 3+ years of hands-on experience with bioprocessing hardware and automation equipment.
- Technical Exposure:
Familiarity with PLCs, SCADA platforms such as Rockwell, Delta
V or Plant
PAx. - Problem-Solving
Skills:
Demonstrated ability to assist in troubleshooting and apply basic analytical and planning skills in a manufacturing or lab environment. - Communication:
Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams and support documentation efforts.
- Industry experience in Bio-Science, Medical Devices, or Pharmaceuticals
- Ability to read electrical schematics and/or familiarity with upstream bioprocessing equipment, automation, and testing processes
- Hands-on experience with tools such as Studio 5000, Factory Talk View Studio, Delta
V Explorer, or Delta
V Live
