We are an established medical practice based in Shrewsbury with a list size of over 11,000 We have an opportunity for a Health Care Assistant to join our team for 24 hours per week.
The hours of work will be:
Monday - 8:00am - 5:00pm
Friday - 8:00am - 5:00pm

Main duties of the jobCLINICAL DUTIES
- Carry out health assessments on newly registered patients, e.g. testing urine, blood pressure checks, pulse, heights,weights, peak flow measurements and taking family history
- Venepuncture and packaging of blood samples
- Carry out dressing changes, underthe supervision of a clinician
- Assist in minor operations, as directed by the Doctor and/or Practice Nurse
- Carry out ECG testing and 24 hour blood pressure monitoring
- Deal with hazardous waste appropriately
- Act as a chaperone when required
- Carry out ear syringing
- Carry out NHS Health Checks
- Administer vaccinations in line with local and national guidelines
- Carry out home visits to patients as required
HOUSEKEEPING DUTIES
- Clean and restock doctors rooms daily
- Ensure that stocks(drugs & consumables) are ordered
- Prepare HCA& doctors clinical areas, in readiness for clinical sessions including instrument preparation, cleaning, checking of expiry dates, replacing and restocking
- Ensure that thedrug refrigerators are checked daily for the correct temperature, and that contents are checked for expiry dates
- Ensure adequate supplies are available and that the cold chain is maintained
- Ensure that equipment is fully operational and that any servicing is arranged and recorded
- Ensure that infection control standards are adhered to, report to Nursing team if standards are not being met. If appropriate attend local IPC meetings conduct internal
Infection Control audits.

We have a particular interest in providing training for clinicians and pastoral support to students and junior doctors. We are a memberof Shrewsbury Primary Care Network.
We are looking for a candidate who is proactive, highly motivated, with a commitment to the provision and further development of high quality services in a primary care setting.
Job responsibilitiesTo assist the Nursing Teamin delivery of both their clinical and administrative duties, maintaining ahigh standard of care for the patients of the Practice, whilst working within
Practice protocols and guidelines.
- GCSE Mathematics
- Good standard of general education
- Excellent communication skills (Written and Oral)
- Time Management and the ability to work to deadlines
- Interpersonal skills
- Some knowledge of clinical IT systems
- A detailed understanding of a General Practice environment
- Experience of dealing with vulnerable patients
- Experience of working in a GP practice
- Practical experience of computerised recording systems
